Welcome to Warwick Mafia XV - Greater Idea!A quick reminder of the Rules:
1) The mods' decisions are final.
2) Please ensure all votes are bold and outside of any spoilers - basically make them clear or they may be overlooked.
3) If any player receives a majority of votes, they will immediately be eliminated. As soon as a mod has noticed they will post a message to say the day has ended and you must all stop talking.
4) If time runs out on a day, the player with the most votes on them at the deadline is eliminated. If multiple players tie for the most votes at the end, I will give all such players a number based on the alphabetical order of their usernames, then generate a random number in that range with RANDOM.org. The unlucky player whose number comes up is then eliminated. This is true even if all players are tied at 0 votes.
5) Do NOT directly quote communications with the mods or with other players in quicktopics. Paraphrasing is acceptable. Additionally do not discuss the formatting of such communications, such as parts being underlined, coloured or bold.
6) Do NOT discuss the game with other players in the game/on the back-up players list outside of the game thread or any quicktopics you are a part of. I have ears everywhere, I WILL know.
7) Day phases will last 5 irl days.
8) Nights will last 48 hours. Unless otherwise stated you may not post in the main thread at night.
9) Please inform the mods via posting in the thread or direct messages if you are going to be inactive for a period. If you are inactive for 48 hours without warning, I will attempt to contact you outside the game to "prod" you. This will be your one warning. Further bouts of inactivity will result in your replacement or elimination of your slot from the game.
10) Death is final, but a single contentless "I am become dead" post will be allowed.
11) Do not edit or delete any posts. That is mod business, and I won't appreciate you pushing into our turf.
12) Do not use encryption unless you have run it past me and I have okayed it.
13) No outside influences, trust tells, posting images to show you have a busy irl schedule etc.
14) Don't screenshot anything from private messages.
15) If you think something breaks a rule then ask first, ideally in PMs with the mods.
16) I can change any and all rules as and when I please.

A couple notes on the set-up that may or may not even be relevant.
The possible teams are Town, Mafia, Werewolves and Aliens. Neutral roles are also possible, but have no teammates =[
Town are your typical town, they don't know who's on their team. They need to kill all Mafia, Werewolves, Aliens, Serial Killers, and any other particularly hostile Neutral roles to win.
Mafia and Werewolves are functionally the same, they know their teammates and get a chat to talk in at any time and a factional night kill every night. They differ only in what power roles are available to them in the deck. They need to eliminate all other evil teams and Serial Killers and then if they can't be killed (i.e. they control the vote and no killing roles are left) then they win.
Aliens are similar to Mafia and Werewolves, but there are fewer of them in the deck, they have generally more powerful abilities and aliens only get one factional night kill for the entire game. They win by eliminating everyone else. This is harder due to their limited night kills. I couldn't tell from the wiki whether Serial Killers are meant to be a faction with a chat and one factional night kill between them all or individual Serial Killers with a kill each. I decided to go with individual Serial Killers as that seems more fun to me. To win, Serial killers need to kill everyone else. Yes, even other Serial Killers.
Good luck y'all =]

Hmm yeah that does make sense - still, shame for the potential lack of pew pew Though as I'm crafting my own spreadsheet (yours is very cool by the way, we love to see it ) I'm noticing that a regular unlimited shot vigilante has been discarded so that's arguably more sus Peeps who I think their discards might indicate something about their actual role, in order from most to least " hmmmm": - Demesne King discarding vigilante is intuitively p sus, though I'd be interested to hear what sort of roles they would perhaps prefer to play rather than a VT with a gun they can use whenever they like. Since choosing an evil team in this sort of set-up can be a Decision as you've no clue whether you'll actually have back-up, personally I would've loved the unlimited power of death with the added bonus of being town
- I'm unsure of what to make of discarding Alien Vanillaiser: on the hand, alien team is rough & you're prolly gonna be flying solo. On the other hand, just straight up taking someone's power role from them N1 sounds like solid memes that mayhaps teeters the border between whether Esh would find that just a Dick Move power vs fun pranks ™️
- Personally I would've liked Daisy's discard as a role it's like a 3-in-one do-a-cool-town-power-thing. Absolute stonks. But also Daisy has discarded VT before so not really throwing sus just vaguely intrigue at the decision 🤔
- Finally Nick's discard of the werewolf FBI agent slightly raises my heckles because I think SKs can often throw off the evil team hunting and so FBI agent's may be a useful thing to have. Though ofc it's a werewolf role and maybe Nick just didn't want to a play an evil team this game? Completely reasonable. So not much "hmmm" but slight "hmmm".
Elements & Molly's discards are the most non-informative discards for me, because tbh I'dve discarded theirs' in exchange for VT. Ashera, Aegis, me, Luke and I suppose Silver's discards all make cool sense. Seem within reason, I can see why - don't let that stop you from giving further explanations if you like though! Other question: does anyone have a favourite animal which relates to their role? If so can you provide a fun fact about that animal 👀

Discards:Daisy: Jack-Of-All-Trades Ashera: Bodyguard Aegis: Private Investigator Silver: One-Shot Dayvig Elements: Hirsute Townie Olterior: Vanilla Town Demesne King: Vigilante Luke: Vanilla Town Molly: Tentacled Townie Esh: Alien Vanillaiser Nick G: Werewolf FBI Agent Ok let's go through this list and see what's sus. Daisy: 😳 Ashera: Bodyguard discard makes some good sense. Playing a role where you get to die instead of someone else isn't something the typical greater ideas player is gonna opt for. Aegis: Idk the odds of cult being in this game, but PI is a very specific role that basically becomes VT if there's no culty wulty peeps around. Another discard that makes some strong sense. Silver: One-Shot Dayvig is definitely a chaos role, one that I'd expect Silver to quite enjoy. A lil surprised to see this discarded but depending on the other choice it might v much make sense. Elements: This is just worse VT, most understandable discard so far. Olterior: tut tut (for those out of the loop, I'm a freak of nature that enjoys VT. Another v understandable discard) The King: Vigilante is a banger role, if you like killing. Because I'm not 100% on who the King is I can't exactly judge based on character, so gonna just leave a lil ? here now, tho if my gut is right this player probably would dodge on this. Luke: tut tut Molly: As much as the name is v funny, again this is like Elements' role just another worse VT that prolly harms the game for town if this role is about. Makes a ton of sense. Esh: Aliens just look like a worse mafia? with maybe cooler added roles? Vanillaiser isn't the biggest thing in the world to discard and discarded a bad is probably a good thing to see? /shrug Nick G: This would have been a really nice evil role, being able to hunt down SKs and also have your own kills. Nick either got offered something even better for evil or just rly rly wanted to be town. or sk. 🤔 Overall there's like 1 sus discard from my POV, so nothing too that I can see. Well there's also my discard but slfkgj anyone who's played greater idea with me probably knows what happened lmao

First things first, but not necessarily in that order. - Daisy: Jack of All Trades is a decent role. Just because Daisy would discard this for a Vanilla Town (which they might well), doesn’t mean their other card was Vanilla Town in this case.
- Ashera: While it is a Town power role, I completely understand this discard. A relatively weak power role, which gets you killed if you use it successfully. Worse in Greater Idea, as multiball, third parties and town killing roles mean that you might kill yourself saving an anti-Town role. A forum game, with the long time commitment and comparative rarity of games, makes the previous disadvantages even worse.
- Aegis: Private Investigator could have been useful if Cult had been around. However, given that the Moderator did not list Cult in possible anti-Town factions, it would have been extremely unfortunate for Aegis to have picked this if the Moderator had already prevented Cult roles from being generated.
- Silver: I can understand Silver’s logic for discarding a 1-Shot Day Vigilante. That doesn’t mean I agree with it, or necessarily trust it. Not necessarily scum, but it’s certainly an interesting discard.
- Elements: Negative utility Town. The only reasons not to discard this would be another negative utility Town role, or absolutely wanting to play as Town rather than anti-Town. Then again, it’s Elements - I wouldn’t be confident in trying to analyse any discards based on logic.
- Olterior: Vanilla Town discard says basically nothing. Some people might pick it over other roles, but discarding it is almost never actively suspicious.
- Demesne King: Vigilante is a strong Town role. Perhaps it isn’t a type of role that they like, but I’m going to have to keep an eye on this.
- Luke: Vanilla Town. Again, nothing really to say about this.
- Molly: Tentacled Town - another negative utility, so most of what I said about Elements’ discard applies here.
- Esh: The only anti-Town discard apart from my own. Could be a good sign, could be that they got two anti-Town roles and preferred the other one. In a game that can have some fairly powerful roles, not picking a role that can let you de-power people is intriguing. (It’s certainly a role I’d consider keeping.)
- NickG: Yes, I’m going to analyse my own discard. The other anti-Town discard. I can’t tell you how to view this. Personally, I don’t seem to have very good luck playing as a Werewolf in Greater Idea, particularly for roles where there is a Town equivalent - no-one believes me when I say I’m the Town variant, even if there’s no incriminating investigative results. Also a relatively low chance of a Serial Killer (amongst the other potentially competing anti-Town factions/roles, particularly as I don’t think any of the factions/roles were actually ruled out until after we started the game).

Right now I don't have much to say about most discards partially cuz a lot of people have basically said most thoughts already? I do kinda get all of the discards though looking at them. Saying for myself, seeing a role called "Tentacled Townie" originally made me very intrigued but then it turned out that it's literally a worse version of Vanilla Town, and I think that's kind of a no-brainer to discard. Not really the most informative as Olterior said but hey, it is what it is.

Just gonna say this is my first game like this, so I'm not sure how other people are gonna act when given the choice between 2 roles. As far as other people's discards go, I don't have much to add - Daisy's and Demesne King's are the roles I would be least likely to discard from this list.
I discarded bodyguard cause I don't like it. I don't feel like dying.

Hi everyone . Sorry I was gone for the beginning, Thor Love and Thunder is out and I planned to go already, but by the looks of things nothing much is gonna happen this first (irl) day so luckily I won’t miss much. However, I did have a nice long look at everyone’s discards, and along with my own hyperanalysis of the setup before things started I can dish out a reads list based on the discards seen so far (since that appears to be what we will be doing first). Ranked from most townie to most scummy: NickG - There is a rule I go by in greater idea, which is trust the strongest anti-town role that is discarded. That award goes to Nick. I merit his claim that he doesn’t like playing Werewolf from my experience with him last forum game, and though there are no especially strong anti-town discards to be seen like Mafia Hider, his discard is the best with an investigative role for one of the two major anti-town factions. Esh - I did make the claim that NickG had the best discard, though, based on the fact that I don’t think people would discard a major faction role (werewolf/mafia) to play what I believed was the best “hide in plain sight” role. Most if not everyone will have an ability in this game, giving the role major value at “shutting up” unwanted attention. It fudges with a strong investigative. It does a lot. But as I made the above assumption, I am reading this as “could just be not wanting to play a faction that feels very passive and/or getting lots of points for discarding it”. I can explain this more if need be. Molly - It is a miller-like effect for an Alien faction, which is a weak faction. I personally value miller effects highly in greater idea to keep, mainly to not show that it has been discarded, but given the power level of Alien in this game this can just be perceived as “worse than VT” discard. So yea, this is a neutral discard (gives no scum or town ping). Ashera - Worst role in the game is gone yay. If the role is forced to be used every night, it is another “worse than VT” discard. If not, and I suspect they knew that, it is worse than the VT discards slightly. I don’t need to go on about why this role is bad, right? Silver - This judgement is based on me knowing Silver well and talking a lot about preferred roles with them, but they hate roles where 1) obligation to use well and 2) can f up town if played badly. One-shot vig is a very risky role to use. And Silver’s clean explanation also gave me an indication they have a town perspective when it comes to analysing this card. But as this could be played as slightly worse VT (due to obligation to use), it is slightly negative. Olterior/Luke - VT is VT. I don’t feel the need to psychoanalyse discarding this role when they are not called Daisy, so for the moment they pop here. Elements - Miller effects are cool to not discard, and I would believe Elements would understand the worth of keeping it hidden alongside having confidence they can hide it. But this is only edging them as slightly worse than VT discard, so its nothing to really read too much into unless people want to interrogate why. The KING - Assumptions I am making about there character = this is a good town role for them to access. Unlike one shot variation, that when you fuck up has no redemption options, this role gives a ton of agency to strong players. It is the worst discard out of the lot. However, I also am under the impression pursuing this may be a red herring. So its not the person I am most suspicious of, as the discard is almost too strong. Daisy - This role is rather strong in a ton of situations, making it really flexible and fun. I know the “me prefer VT” meta with them, but they also have played enough of this with some of us where this is known and can be abused. And other than VT, I don’t count too many better draws. Either they discarded this to draw VT (but we have 2 discards of that role in 11 player game) or they drew better on the second (I would need to know which roles Daisy would value higher) or they are not town. Overall, I only have a good opinion really of Nick and bad opinion of Daisy and King after solely discards, the rest are just really normal, and I don't really know what I should have faith in pushing right now. But given this analysis my initial suspicion is: [ b ]Vote: Daisy [ /b ] Btw, I will be using spoilers and titles in the future to make my posts easier to read, but this will indicate my posting style to you all and I just wanna get something out. Please ask me to explain anything in the game you may find odd or anything and I will try my best to explain. Hope everyone has a really fun game.

Oh and btw, Private Investigative for me is literally the ONLY awful investigative for me IMO. I would play it like a VT that can visit people's houses to say hi. Not only are there as far as I counted 2 cards out of 145 that can make cult, but also I would want Cult to make me a Cult anyway. I have an issue with Greater Idea setups, where I never want to play as a bad faction because of picking bias. I feel like if I start letting what I actually want to play come into it, people just will permaexile me and I don't get to play, which in a forum game is pain as I miss a lot. So a role that can make me mafia regardless of what I pick is perfect for letting me have a fun game.
That's my lil explanation. Hope it helps. And trust me, I don't hate this game (I chose to play after all), I just know it comes with a heavy cost to me.

Question for the group, would people consider a no-vote d1?
Id be up for it, there aren't tat many people playing and I'd like the game to have a decent amount of longevity haha. Also no one likes being voted out of a forum game without ever getting a night phase.

I think we have gone over why it is generally a worse decision to no vote d1, but also yea it be a forum game. I will vote for voting someone out as realise people will also die N1 which is virtually the same thing, but it's just a question of our intentions with this game. It's a good question to ask.

I can follow and appreciate Aegis feelings regarding the Private Investigator role. It’s one of the weakest investigative roles in the game, I believe, alongside the Conspiracy Theorist, due to how unlikely it is to actually be relevant to the setup. I’d still pick it over Vanilla Town, negative utility or maybe other minor power roles, but that’s about it. I understand where silver is going regarding not pushing certain discards too heavily, but it is a little suspicious and we’re not likely to have much else in terms of information in this dayphase. silver, I am personally going to oppose a Day 1 no-vote. Aside from the usual arguments about how it loses some early agency for Town, the Moderator clearly stated in the opening post of the game that everyone being on zero votes still counts as a drawn vote and will result in a random elimination. If someone is going to get voted out anyway, we may as well have agency over who it is. Leaving it up to a completely random selection could result in a strong Town power role going out Day 1. On a personal note, I would hate to be exiled Day 1 by a random number generator whatever my alignment, particularly if I felt that I’d done nothing wrong or that other people had been more suspicious. I do think we shouldn’t be rushing into voting someone else, and would prefer an exile either by majority in the last 24 hours, or by plurality at the end of the day phase, so that we can make a sensible decision and so that we don’t immediately eject someone from a game that could last a month. But I still think we ought to make the choice rather than have it made for us.

I'd much rather have a vote Day 1, keep in mind it might not just be mafia about and/or mafia could be hella stacked. iirc Lucy said as long as the setup was playable for D1 she would use it. By not voting Day 1 we could be handing the game over to mafia before it even starts.

I'm finally sitting down on my chair so I shall actually expand my thoughts on all the discards! Though this is my first time doing forum mafia so some of my thoughts might be completely misguided
Daisy: Jack-Of-All-Trades: One of the ones where I would be kinda suspicious, cuz it seems to be pretty good, but at the same time I can see going for more lucrative roles.
Ashera: Completely understandable, who the flip would want a role where you die?
Aegis: Yeah, looking at the role list, Private Investigator seems about as useful as ice-cream in the Artic, doesn't surprise me in any way
Silver: It's a strong town role but like, I absolutely understand the reasoning Silver gave for discarding the role.
Elements: It's the same situation as me basically, worse Vanilla Town.
Oliterior and Luke: Who'd wanna play as Vanilla Town when given the option of that or something else?
Demesne King: Vigilante seems like a strong role, so the dismissal is like, the second one I feel a tad suspicious about but at the same time, again, more lucrative roles may exist for a person.
Molly (Me!): Already stated but like, again, just worse Vanilla Town. I saw the role name and was all excited initially because I imagined a townie with tentacles for hands 😔
Esh and Nick G: Both are evil role dismissals, so that does kinda lean towards a potentially positive lean, but at the same time, both these roles are a bit more on the niche side with their effects, and Alien seems harder to win as than other evil roles (Maybe besides Serial Killer) so it could also be a switch to a better evil role?
I mean overall I feel like this was Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare, W., 1600) from me but hey, thems some thoughts out!
Also I don't know how to do any text commands, including quotes, but to answer Silver's thing, definitely excited to play! First time doing a forum mafia game, hopefully shan't be the last!
