On Being Talkative
Excluding Barry, I usually post the most out of anyone in a game. In the pregame thread, before we received our roles, I posted a couple of times beyond my initial sign up. You only need to go back and look at every single previous games that I’ve participated in on this forum to see that this point stands true. When have I ever kept a low profile? Never. Arnie, you definitely knew that yet you decided to use it as a reason to pin a vote on me. To me, your reasoning isn’t good enough here.
On the Post Liking Thing
To clarify, I was trying to stimulate activity because it was pretty dire 24 hours in. Following the Facebook announcement, I’d seen that other people had been online yet hadn’t commented. So I thought, why not do something different to shake things up in what could be a beneficial way? I didn’t even remember this forum had like functions until vj liked a couple of posts. Pretty much no one has used it in the history of forum games. So I thought, why not play around with it?
The Rationale Behind It
I genuinely thought, why not try out something inconsequential? I didn’t think it would be plausible for Hectic to include a post liking mechanic based on precedent. So I thought it was improbable that Axis could game my suggestion. Additionally, Ben is an extremely experienced player who has proved he has many effective techniques. Am I not allowed to learn from him and use them? Improvise and adapt them for purpose in a forum mafia game? The outcome might be different but the general underlying principle can still be the same. You can try guessing inconsistencies or opportunistic behaviour in others, and that was the intention of such a post. D1 you basically get nothing and it’s fairly random. But I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use that kind of gimmick to obtain more information based upon interactions. From my perspective, I’m sticking with my usual style while adding an additional tool used to gauge people’s reactions. I’ve provoked a wide range of reactions which are far more extreme than I could have imagined.
My Inability to Defend
I wasn’t planning to make the post liking a big deal but Sam and distributive both made a massive deal out of it. And others said I’m making a big deal out of it, which is suspicious. What am I supposed to do? Let all these attacks against me fly without defending myself? It’s unreasonable to expect me to roll over and die over what I’d intended to be a passing comment? It’s a lose lose situation. I don’t defend myself and allow my detractors to paint this negative picture of me. I defend myself and they accuse me of making a big deal out of it.
I didn’t even get a chance to demonstrate that I wasn’t going to centre discussion around it, because people immediately bandied around this unsubstantiated assumption I would have. In other words, it’s a completely hypothetical scenario people are still taking to be true despite the lack of anything concrete. I can’t properly address these accusations because I never had the chance to show where I was going with it. So I have no way of disproving anything. I think it’s unfair and a low hanging fruit to create a nonsensical wagon against me.
Thoughts Before I Sleep
Haven’t been able sleep because these wacky turn of events have been stuck on my mind, and I needed to spend time articulating my thoughts. So far, I honestly believe i’ve tried to contribute to the best of my abilities. That much should be obvious from the nature of the posts I’ve made. I’m trying my best and it’s really frustrating that this is the conclusion many people have drawn. Particularly because I feel like everything I’ve tried to do has been taken out of context, and the worst immediately assumed. It feels like people are doing this on purpose! To me, it’s suspicious that multiple people have wagoned this hard on what I perceive to be a harmless post. But apparently that’s a suspicion that nobody else seems to share.
I suspect those experienced players who’ve participated in this vicious smear campaign against me (Sam, distributive, Arnie), and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of Kate or Cookiemonster has been encouraged by their Axis buddy to take the other side of the camp. In general for mafia games, that’s what mafia do. They latch onto something controversial, make a meal of it then put their members on both sides to reduce guilty associations between each other when the blamegame begins.
